I have added a second track, a 46 ft MaxTrax tri-oval so we will be able to run both ovals simultaneously. This should shorten the day a few hours. Schedule of Events! · Mon Aug 31st – Thu Sep 3rd doors open 1 pm till 8 pm for practice · Fri Sep 4th -- Doors open 12 pm (noon) – 8 pm We ask local racers to try and practice during the week or the weekend before, so we can give those traveling a great distance the track Fri eve & Sat morning. Practice will be set up round robin… Saturday Sep 5th · Practice 8 am- 11 am · 11:00 am meeting and introduction & DRAW / Qualifying for T/A starting spot. · 12 pm (NOON) qualifying …. For Southern Sportsman Immediately after Drivers Meeting the start of the TRANS AM race Each racer will race 40 minutes each… 10 minutes in each lane… Since this is a timed race there will be no restarts or track calls … anyone with a problem remove your car to the pits for repairs. The red flag will only be thrown should there be a track problem. 1:30 lane rotation in between heats. Sportsman Race will start at 1 pm and be run in the afternoon in conjunction with the TRANS AM… 5 minute heats on the 46’ MAXTRAX tri-oval Sunday Sep 6th 11:00 am 1969 Southern 500 . The actual Southern 500 is 367 laps (1.3mile track) There will be 4 ea 8 minute heats to complete a race… 12:30 pm PERMATEX 300 for MODIFIEDS (1960’s era) there will be 4ea 5 minute heats (20 total minutes) and this will constitute a race. This should be 300 + laps THE TRACKS The Southern 500 and Sportsman series will be on the 46 foot MAX TRAX Tri-oval…. The Modifieds will be run on the MaxTrax High banked 30 foot oval.. for the TRANS AM a 75+ foot 4 lane road course featuring the “CRAZIES” and a 12” elevation change. Every year there is always some gray area or stretching of the rules….. if you don’t see it then call and ask me… but rule of thumb…. If you don’t see it… then don’t do it… Brushes…. Any copper… NO SILVER…. ALL DIVISIONS TRANS AM RACE General Class Information 1. This class to be run on Ron Sr.’s 75 foot Tyco road course. 2. Timing & Scoring: Trakmate for Windows with Relay. 3. Power Supply: AG Transformer 18 Volts/10 Amps. 4. Controller: Any Controller may be used (No Boxes). Brakes and/or brake hook-ups are NOT available on this track. 5. Class begins at 11:00 AM on Saturday. 6. Qualifying will be based on sign-in order. 7. Each driver will run 4 heats, one in each lane, with each heat lasting 10 minutes. There will be NO run-offs this year to reach the expected lap total. Chassis 1. The only legal chassis is an original Aurora brand Thunderjet. 2. The chassis shall remain unaltered except in the instances noted below. 3. The vertical gear plate rails located on top of the plate may be trimmed for body clearance purposes. Any Full or Intermediate size American Stock Car body for the 1949 – 1969 model years as run by NASCAR/USAC/ARCA may be used. Hard or Resin bodies may substitute painted glass with clear glass, of substantial thickness. Bodies may be lowered and hollowed out, wheel wells trimmed for clearance. No added weights to body. Magnets 1. Magnets shall be original magnets manufactured exclusively for the Aurora Thunderjet chassis and shall remain unaltered. 2. Magnets may be shimmed by the use of non-ferrous materials only. 3. Magnets must not measure more than 170 as measured on a BRP magnet tester (If you are using stock magnets, do not worry about this rule). If you have any questions or just wish to be entirely certain, we can test your magnets for you. 2. The 15 tooth plastic crown gear shall remain an original Aurora Thunderjet part. 3. All gears shall remain unaltered except for cleaning and/or polishing. Armatures 1. Armatures shall be an original Aurora Thunderjet brand and shall remain unaltered. 2. Armature commutator plates may be cleaned and/or polished. 3. Armatures may measure an average of no less than 16 ohms from pole to pole. Electrical 1. Pick-up shoes with any type of step similar to stock are permitted (American Line, BSRT 504, Wizzard E82, Slottech). The step shall remain unaltered. 2. The rear hook and front tabs may be altered to limit shoe travel. No material may be added. 3. Pick-up shoe springs shall be an original Aurora part or an identical replacement (i.e. BSRT). 4. Pick-up shoe springs may be trimmed or stretched. 5. Any copper/carbon composite brush shall be legal. Wheels, Axles, & Tires 1. Wheels should be an original Aurora part or a similar replacement wheel with a single flange. (i.e. M.E.V. wheels). No double flanged wheels may be used. They should be mounted to a stock tjet axle. The completed chassis will roll through a 1 inch tech block. 2. Any readily available tire with a size between maximum .380 and a minimum of .350 that is produced for an original type wheel may be used. 3. Glue, silicone, or other adhesive materials may be used to secure tires to wheels. 2008 - 2009 Ron Sr’s NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED’S formerly the NASCAR “MODIFIED/SPORTSMAN DIVISION” General Class Information 1. This class to be run on Ron Jr..’s 30 foot Maxtrax oval banked at 9 degrees. 2. Timing & Scoring: Trakmate for Windows with Relay. 3. Power Supply: AG Transformer 18 Volts/10 Amps. 4. Controller: Any Controller may be used (No Boxes). Brakes and/or brake hook-ups may NOT be used. 5. Class begins at 11 AM on Sunday. 6. Qualifying will be used to determine starting order (3 laps) 7. Each driver will run 4 heats, one in each lane, with each heat lasting 4 minutes. 8. There will be NO run-offs this year to reach the expected lap total. General Car Information 1. The combined weight of the chassis and body must weigh between 19 and 21 grams. 2. Maximum length may not exceed 3 inches. 3. Maximum width may not exceed 1 3/8 inches. (MAX TRAX) (1 5/16 on piece track). 4. Car should be centered so that it will fit through tech block without touching the side of block. Chassis 1. Legal chassis’ include the following: original Aurora brand Thunderjet/Tuff-Ones or the JLs. 2. The chassis shall remain unaltered except in the instances noted below. 3. The vertical gear plate rails located on top of the plate may be trimmed for body clearance purposes. Bodies 1. Any American late model, coupe, coach, or flatback body may be used. No trucks, foreign, or sports car bodies may be used. 2. Bodies may be injection molded or resin cast. · Posts may be added to an acceptable body provided that they utilize the existing stock mounting location for posts. Bodies may be lowered and lightened. There are no lowering restrictions except that the roof and drivers compartment must be intact. · Front Fenders may be removed. · Rear Fenders may be trimmed and hollowed out. · Glass may be removed. · Trim pieces may be added to achieve a look of authenticity (i. e. Side exhaust pipes, wire mesh or screen for windows, spoilers, etc.) · Examples of acceptable bodies may be viewed at the following websites: www.lasheefs.com www.vintagemodifieds.com Magnets 1. Magnets shall be any readily available ceramic. These include the following most commonly used, but are not limited to, JL (blue & white), Super 2 (blue & yellow), or AFX Non- Magnatraction (blue & red). 2. Magnets may be shimmed by the use of non-ferrous materials only. 3.. Magnets may be shaved to enable proper fitment in chassis. 4. No other magnet modifications shall be allowed. Gears 1. Armatures may measure an average of no less than 5 ohms from pole to pole. 4. Armatures may be balanced by means of removing material from stacks. Epoxy may not be used. Electrical 1. Any readily available shoe shall be legal. The step or contact patch shall remain unaltered. 2. Any method may be used to limit pick-up shoe travel. 3. Pick-up shoe springs shall be an original Aurora part or an identical replacement (i.e. BSRT). 4. Pick-up shoe springs may be trimmed, stretched, or used as shunts. 5. Any copper/carbon composite brush shall be legal. 6. Shunts may be used to improve electrical conductivity. Wheels, Axles, & Tires 1. Any readily available hub/wheel may be used. Wheels may be lightened. 2. Only readily available slip-on tires may be used (no sponge silicones). 3. Any readily available axle (rear) and weighted fronts may be used. 4. Any tire size with a maximum of .400. 5. Glue/adhesive materials may be used to secure tires to wheels. 6. No specially fabricated, or freak parts (i.e Spring loaded axles) may be used. Best appearing Modified Contest rules: To enter your car for this contest you must pick a / your favorite Modified Driver, model the car after him and supply a pic of car and driver along with a short history of the driver. Southern Sportsman Series Rules Summary: Aurora, MM, JL, AW T-Jet with hop-up gears, minimum 14.0 ohms, any axle, wheel, tire. The Late-model Sportsman allows vintage Aurora T-Jets and re- issues by MM, JL, AW to compete side-by-side. Late-model NASCAR NEXTEL Cup bodies and paint schemes are represented for the modern NASCAR fan. Chassis Specifications 1. Base Chassis – Aurora T-Jet copper chassis, ThunderPlus from Model Motoring Inc., and Johnny Lightning / AutoWorld ThunderJet 500 is legal. 1.1. Modifications – Chassis base must remain stock without modifications. No venting, lightening or trimming allowed. Chassis gear plate must remain stock without modifications with the exception of the rails running from front to back along each side may be trimmed to facilitate lowering of the body. Bearing holes must remain stock on the base and plate. No metal bearings allowed. No weight may be added to the chassis. 2. Armature 2.1. Arm and base chassis must match original manufacturer for Aurora, MM, JL, AW and must remain stock. Aurora base chassis may use any Aurora armature with 2 lams. 2.2. Minimum 14 ohms 2.3. Modifications 2.3.1. Balancing – none allowed 2.3.2. Truing – none allowed 2.3.3. Re-winds/de-winds – none allowed 3. Electrical System 3.1. Base plates – stock, no modifications, no soldering, no shunting. 3.2. Brushes – copper/carbon composite only and must be O.E.M., Thunder brushes or Wizzard brands. 3.3. Shoes.- O.E.M. stock pick up shoes and similar T-Jet replacements such as BSRT brand. Regular or long step permitted. Only normal t-jet width shoes allowed. 4. Magnets 4.1. Type – Any ceramic magnets are legal including Aurora T-Jet, Model Motoring Inc., Johnny Lightning ThunderJet. Any AFX magnets including Super II’s are allowed. 4.2. Modifications – none allowed. 4.3. Shims – non-ferrous material allowed 5. Gears 5.1. Top Plate Gears (driven, idler, and armature) must be O.E.M for Model Motoring, Aurora, and JL. The drive pinion may be any readily available stock 9,12 or 14 tooth brass gear. 5.2. Modifications – None allowed. No beveled or lightened gears. Gears may be polished. Solder or glue may be used to attach gears to shafts. Excessive solder that adds significant weight will not be allowed. 5.3. Arm pinion – stock 14 tooth 5.4. Idler – stock 24 tooth. 5.5. Driven – stock 24 tooth. 5.6. Drive pinion – 9, 12 or 14 tooth. 5.7. Crown – stock plastic 15 tooth. 5.8. Crown gear hub may be shaved or spacers added to maintain proper mesh. 5.9. Any cluster gear shaft may be used. 6. Axles – Any. 7. Wheels – Any. 8. Tires - Any Body Specifications 1. Bodies must be a hard-shell injection mold or resin cast NASCAR NEXTEL Cup style. Only bodies from 1990 to present are legal. 2. The following bodies are legal: 2.1. Tyco/Mattel Lumina, Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Taurus and T- Bird. 2.2. Life Like Monte-Carlo, Grand Prix, Taurus and Intrepid. 2.3. BRP and other resin cast bodies are legal as long as they are the wide version. 2.4. Narrow Life Like bodies with flares are not legal. 3. Bodies must be attached to the chassis by 2 screws and body posts. 4. Bodies must be mounted squared/evenly. 5. Bodies may be lowered but must retain their stock appearance 6. Rocker Panels must be intact. 7. Fenders may be trimmed for wheel clearance but when viewed from above no part of the tire may be seen. 8. When viewed from the side both front and rear tires must be fully visible. 9. Bodies should be presented in a professional appearance. 10. Bodies do not have to be a true-to-life model. 11. Full glass must be intact Controller Specifications Allowable controllers include Parma Econo, Parma Turbo, Professor Motor models without adjustable brake and adjustable sensitivity. In addition, any “toy” set controller from Aurora, Tomy, Tyco, Lifelike, and Atlas may be used. No auxiliary batteries, capacitors or supplemental power supply is allowed.
